Our forum design is actually inspired by my recent Portfolio design that I created yesterday. I fell in love with the colors and decided that I wanted to create a forum to go with my website and portfolio. That being said, the overall design is flat as I wanted it. Basically, I'm looking for critique on the actual layout and design as well as my font choices. I understand that the information typed in this preview has errors. I assure you that will be fixed when I code it and make it live. So, what are your thoughts and suggestions? live link: izimmbi.com/portfolio

❀ Zimm, I honestly think that you did a remarkable job with your portfolio design. I love the colors that you chose for this project. I even love the flat design. I do suggest that you remove the "shadows" on the nav bar and the footer at the bottom. Maybe use a darker color for the bars and/or add a solid dark border to each of them to separate them from the rest of the content. I cannot wait to see the live version of this. Be sure to post a live link so I can see it in action when your done!

While coding and putting this together, I've completed the main page this far. Here is what I changed: menu and copyright footer now have a 2px solid dark border. Menu buttons have a 1px solid border just below the menu bar on current and hover. Changed the lat at project to show this forum. In the footer, latest tweets has been changed to latest vlog with a video and short description. Tried to correct any spelling and grammar mistakes. I'll post a live version of the main page tomorrow. Oh, and I switched the font slightly.

I cannot wait to see the live version! I think adding the solid border to the top and/or bottom of the menu/foot bar was a good idea. Do you have a preview of the changes until you post the live link?

Here is a screenshot of the changes I made to the navbar, the text or font-face, and the footer areas. ^ the navbar no longer has a shadow beneath it. However, I added a 2px solid dark border. With the menu buttons, there is the 1px solid colored border for current page and hover. Also I changed the font from Oxygen Mono to Roboto, a different google font. ^ in the footer, I changed the tweets to vlog featuring my latest vlog. I changed the copyright bar to include the site's navigation links in the bottom left and the copyright in the bottom right. Additionally, I added the 2px solid border at the top of the bar to separate it from the rest of the footer area.

After seeing the original, then seeing the changes, I think you have an amazing base for your portfolio design. I really like the dark to light color ratios that you have going on here. I like that it's colorful. Flat design is the "in" thing right now and I'd have to say you have accomplished that design quite well with this template design. I think that the borders look better than the shadows in the original design, so kudos for changing that. I also like the font choice better. It's smooth all the way around. KIU and can't wait to see the live version when your done.

@zimm, the design looks great! Very colorful and bright. However, you should get a better more professional picture for your Portfolio. Good luck!

I would have to agree with Benji here. I would love to see the live version. I think having a portfolio is a GREAT idea particularly if you'll be interested in pursuing project/job opportunities in the future. Have an online portfolio will be an easy way to market yourself. I've seen online portfolios and they are basic of the basics of designs. I'm glad that although you're keeping your design simple it is VERY attractive. I don't know if it's relevant that although I've nothing to contribute as far as constructive criticism goes for your portfolio design I wanted to mention that your content in your video is awesome I would say consider having better lighting in your future videos!

❀ Zimm, You, my dear are a goddess! J/K, but I think you did an amazing job with your portfolio. I love the about/folio pages and how every time a link is clicked on the left hand side, the content opens in the white space to the right. That's nifty. I also like how you did your portfolio page. I like the hover effects you used and I like that they are dated. How do you remember such things like that from so long ago? What jQuery did you use for the hover?

Thanks Leto, that being said, don't ever call me a goddess and retract it again The hover effects are pure HTML/CSS actually. No jQuery with the galleries.

❀ Zimm - flawless! I totally love the live version. I don't think the initial preview did it justice. I really like the collapse and expand thing you did with the about and portfolio page. That's pretty neat. I love the stuff in your portfolio too. I think I may have to hire you at some point...
